Even though the temperatures outside tell us that we are in the throes of winter, the calendar tells us we are quickly approaching spring and the start of another exciting Rookie League baseball season and Nike RBI softball season.

The Rookie League Foundation is getting an early start to the fun by sponsoring school visits to several Oklahoma City Public School, Millwood ISD and Crooked Oak ISD schools throughout January and February. Eleven visits will be made to 10 elementary schools over a five-week period beginning with the first two visits taking place last week to third graders at Esperanza Elementary School and Fillmore Elementary School.

Additional school visits will be made to Millwood Elementary, Spencer Elementary, Santa Fe South Penn Elementary, Cesar Chavez Elementary, Thelma Parks Elementary, Crooked Oak Elementary, Monroe Elementary and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary.

Each school visit includes skill stations that teach the fundamentals of bat and ball sports, such as fielding a ground ball, throwing, and hitting off a tee. There is also a visit from Moonshot, the Oklahoma City Comets mascot who always spreads joy with a grand entrance and infectious attitude that spreads joy amongst the participants.

Each participant is provided with an OKC baseball cap and flier with instructions on how to register for the upcoming Rookie League season.

Collaborating with the Rookie League Foundation to make school visits possible are our friends from USA Softball and the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.
