RBI Coaches Attend PCA Workshop Ahead of Fall Season

On Aug. 17th, the OKC Nike RBI Baseball program, in collaboration with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), held a transformative workshop aimed at empowering coaches to develop their athletes into strong competitors both on and off the field. The event, hosted at U.S. Grant High School, brought together approximately 50 coaches from OKCPS middle schools, as they gear up for the upcoming OKC PAL fall sports leagues.

The highlight of the day was the “Developing Competitors” workshop, led by Joe Scally, a renowned expert from PCA. Scally’s interactive session focused on equipping coaches with the tools to foster resilience, teamwork, and a winning mindset among young athletes. Through a series of engaging activities and discussions, coaches learned how to instill these critical values while maintaining a positive and supportive environment for their players.

In addition to the workshop, RBI baseball coaches in attendance were treated to a specialized baseball training session conducted by Tommy Cornish, the long-time baseball coach of U.S. Grant High School. Coach Cornish shared his extensive knowledge and expertise, offering valuable insights into effective practice drills, game strategies, and player development techniques. His hands-on approach allowed coaches to refine their skills and better prepare their teams for the competitive season ahead.

The event also saw a generous contribution from Good Sports, an organization committed to ensuring all kids have the opportunity to play sports. The RBI coaches were thrilled to receive top-quality equipment, including bats, gloves, practice pants and other essential gear, which will significantly enhance their development and ensure that their players have the resources they need to succeed.

Overall, the workshop was a resounding success, leaving the coaches feeling more prepared and motivated for the upcoming season. With the support of PCA, local sports leaders like Tommy Cornish, and generous donors like Good Sports, the OKC PAL fall sports leagues are set to be an exciting and rewarding experience for all involved. OKC Nike RBI Baseball season opens on September 14th at U.S. Grant High School, Southeast High School and Douglass High School.
