Empowering Non-Profits with Marketing Insights
The Rookie League Foundation, dedicated to supporting non-profits statewide, hosts its signature “Lunch and Learn” events to foster community engagement and support. In past events, they have helped nonprofits learn how to use resources in the ballpark. This past week, they hosted one dedicated to non-profit marketing and had three panelists in attendance who could give their insights into marketing, whether branding or social media.
The three panelists included Michela Owen, Hannah Zachry, and Alyssa Weathers-Murphy. Owen, a marketing strategist for Backlash Creative, works on marketing campaigns and produces engaging content while also having a passion for sports media. Zachry owns Saw When Design Studio, which directly works with nonprofits and helps create bold brands and website design and has won several awards for her work. Weathers-Murphy owns Siren Media and works with nonprofits and small businesses. Her team has also won awards for their work in the marketing field. These ladies are excellent representations of their fields and have direct experience with non-profit marketing.
The three panelists discussed branding, social media, and the importance of website design. They emphasized the need to consistently carry a non-profit’s message throughout all aspects of marketing. All of the panelists spoke on how posts with direct videos or pictures from events can do much more on social media than graphic posts. In regards to branding, they discuss how logos can help nonprofits stand out and give them ideas on refreshing one’s logo to help it reach a wider audience.
Nonprofits from across Oklahoma attended, including organizations like the Arts Council, Downtown OKC representatives, and OKC Parks. One of the attendees, Amy Reyes from Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group, shared their positive experience, stating,
“I found the panelists to be very insightful and they provided valuable tips and resources to better help market both rural and urban nonprofits. I especially enjoyed their approach to remaining committed to branding your mission throughout all aspects of the marketing,” Reyes said.
Attendees also asked the panelists direct questions. Afterward, they had lunch and networked with the panelists and other non-profits.Then afterward, they had lunch and a networking opportunity with the panelists and the other non-profits. We had around 20 attendees, and each non-profit representative received a gift bag that they could use to help raise funds for their cause.
The Rookie League Foundation of Oklahoma plans to hold around five of these events annually, bringing in new panelists and topics to best support nonprofits across the state.
